Area Description
Wilton, CT, part of Fairfield County is a prosperous area with about 17,960 residents in 2005. This Connecticut Gold Coast community is one of the top affluent areas in the nation and the average family income is around $194,400. Many of the people in the community are married couples, some with kids. The majority of the residents here consist of younger children and adults between the ages of 25 and 64.
Shopping, Restaurants and "Things to Do"
A lot of Wilton, CT is open landscape and home to many deer. There is historic architecture and a wide array of services in the town. At the center there are a variety of eateries, boutique shops, a Starbucks, a supermarket and a Bow-Tie movie theater. The Route 7 corridor part of town is a commercial area with office buildings and there are older areas featuring historic sites.
Transportation
Many of the individuals who work commute to nearby cities such as New York City, Stamford, Hartford and Norwalk. Airports are easily accessible - Bradley International Airport in Hartford is 80 minutes away. And NY airports are close by too, like Westchester County Airport in White Plains is about 40 minutes away, LaGuardia Airport in NYC is 50 minutes away and JFK Airport is 60 minutes away. Another transportation option is the railroad. There are two train stations: Wilton and Cannondale stations where residents are able to take the Metro-North railroad’s Danbury Line. Also an option is the bus. The bus route '7 Link,' part of the Norwalk Transit District, links Norwalk and Danbury, CT and offers a rush hour shuttle bus.
Schools
The modern public schools feature two elementary schools and one middle and high school. The education programs feature advanced and gifted student courses, music and arts classes, resource center and language lab. Three elementary schools are private schools. The Connecticut Friends School teaches kindergarten through eighth grade and Our Lady of Fatima and the Montessori School teach preschool through eighth grade. Students and teachers enjoy smaller class sizes of about 20 to 25 students and more than 90% of the students that graduate from the high school go on to college.
