The city has two Metro-North Railroad stations on the New Haven Line. Fairfield station, with 1216 parking spaces, is the last stop before Bridgeport, and a trip to Grand Central Terminal on the express trains takes 1 hour and 14 minutes. Southport station is about two miles south and has 179 parking spaces. A third station with 1500 parking spaces is under construction near the Grasmere neighborhood.
Whether ridesharing through MetroPool or driving alone, commuters have easy access to Interstate 95 for the 55-mile trip to NYC. The drive takes between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on traffic. The Ciy of Fairfield is also crossed by U.S. 1 for local business access and the Merritt Parkway for scenic drives.
Residents can also take a ferry from Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson, NY via the Long Island Sound. The trip lasts 1.25 hours.
